This tater tot casserole is loaded with savory ground beef, creamy mushroom soup, and crunchy tater tots.
Plus, with just a few simple ingredients, this family favorite can be whipped up any day of the week. This recipe is incredibly simple to prepare, inexpensive, and can easily feed a crowd!
HOW TO MAKE THE EASY TATER TOT CASSEROLE
Everything tastes better with cheese, and tater tot casserole is no exception. This recipe calls for cheddar cheese that has been shredded. However, feel free to use whatever you prefer! Colby Jack, Cheddar, or American cheeses all work well. You may also use a combination of flavors.
The last thing you want to do after a hearty dinner is clean up. Therefore, to simplify the process, spray the baking dish with a high-quality cooking spray before layering the casserole. This will simplify cleaning.
You may customize this casserole in any way you wish. I make an effort to sneak in a few vegetables whenever the opportunity presents itself. Broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, and other veggies all work well in this casserole.
You can also substitute ground turkey for beef for a healthier option.
Use barbecue sauce in place of ketchup to give your casserole a sweet and smoky flavor. A small adjustment that makes a significant difference.
EAST TATER TOT
If the casserole seems a little dry, add half a cup of milk. Alternatively, double the mushroom soup. This will ensure that your casserole is extra moist and flavorful.
Would you like to prepare this tater tot casserole in advance? Prepare and assemble the layers, then place them in the freezer. When ready to bake, place the pan in the oven for approximately 60-90 minutes. Alternatively, you can defrost it overnight in the refrigerator and bake for 35 minutes.
What about the remainders? This casserole will keep for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator. Cover the dish completely or place it in a sealed container. To reheat, bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Alternatively, microwave it on high for 1-2 minutes.
Make certain to bake this casserole in the appropriate-sized dish. If the dish is not large enough, the liquid will drip out. If it is too large, the liquid will evaporate, resulting in an overly dry casserole. For reference, once all the layers are complete, the dish should be filled 34% of the way. A 128-inch baking dish is ideal for this recipe.
Want to add even more flavor to your casserole? 1 tablespoon chipotle pepper, 1 tablespoon chives, 1 jalapeno, finely chopped, and 14 cup bacon, finely chopped
